“When I was looking at schools I was looking for small schools where I could do things like research and have close relationships with professors. Working in the lab has been the most positive part of my experience here, I think.
We’re trying to synthesize a natural product, which is basically a molecule that appears in nature, using techniques that would make synthesizing this molecule easier. Medicinal chemists or other researchers trying to make different molecules would use techniques that we’re trying here. Developing new reactions makes things easier to make in general so that’s what would make it cheaper, is being able to make these things [like medicine] with more ease and fewer steps.”
