Photo from the dress rehearsal of the Occidental College Department of Theater presentation of U-R-U by Julia Lederer, directed by Edgerton Guest Artist Jessica Kubzansky, Nov. 28, 2018 in Keck Theater.
First daughter Helen Spectacular travels to Robo Island (Silicon Valley meets the Bermuda Triangle) on a secret mission to free thousands of robots from servitude. Absurdly comic and existentially chilling, U-R-U examines the societal obsession with progress at all costs and the decreasing worth of humanity in this increasingly artificial world.
U-R-U is based on a 1920 science fiction play by the Czech writer Karel Čapek called R.U.R., which was the first time the word “robot” was used.
