Occidental College’s 2016-2017 Wanlass Artist in Residence, Rafa Esparza, works with students, in combination with professor Mary Beth Heffernan’s class, to make adobe bricks on Weingart patio on Sept. 6, 2016.
The Wanlass Artist-in-Residence is Oxy’s semester-long residency program that allows an artist to investigate aspects of their practice and share it with the College campus-wide. The program encourages cross-campus collaboration and thoughtful sustained interaction between artist and students. The Wanlass Artist in Residence Program is made possible by generous support from the Kathryn Caine Wanlass Charitable Foundation. Esparza’s class is called “Manos de Obra: Bodies Making Los Angeles,” an experimental interdisciplinary studio class.
