Cynthia Magallanes-Gonzalez '17, a Sociology major and Fulbright Scholar, wrote her senior comprehensive paper (comp) on “Migrant Women From Africa South of the Sahara in Rabat and Casablanca, Morocco” after she interviewed 20 Black African migrant/refugee mothers living in Rabat over a one-month period. Her interview questions focused on the migrants’ experiences in their home country, their migration journey, their living conditions in Morocco, and their views of motherhood. Cynthia’s overall findings and analysis of the data is “that these mothers view their mothering as a revolutionary act of resistance towards their oppression and that despite the marginalization these women experience they continue to show unconditional love to their children.” Photo taken May 17, 2017 in front of the Hameetman Career Center.
