The class of 1976 entered Occidental during Nixon’s re-election campaign and in the four years to come was energized by both Vietnam and Watergate as political topics. As a result, the class produced an unusually large number of politically engaged graduates. Four members of the class of ’76 arrived from Arizona and were drawn together by politics and the student newspaper for which they all wrote. They developed significantly different political ideologies and intensified their friendship in the decades since, even as they have often been political opponents. They discussed the importance and meaning of the 2016 presidential campaign and made predictions about its outcome and the future of the country.<br />
