Physics Dept. Lab Supervisor & Electronics Technician Chuck Oravec and machinist William De La Vega set up their telescopes in the quad for students to watch the transit of Mercury across the Sun on Monday, Nov. 11, 2019.
A transit of Mercury across the Sun takes place when the planet Mercury passes directly between the Sun and a superior planet, becoming visible against the solar disk. During a transit, Mercury appears as a tiny black dot moving across the disk of the Sun. This rare event won't be seen from Earth again until 2032.
